Session 584

Seth Speaks, Session 584

(“If you hadn’t been able to speak through Jane, would you try to do so through another – or are you doing so anyhow?”)

I have spoken through others.  The arrangements “this time” were already made, you see.  It is true that Ruburt need not have accepted the arrangement.  If so the material would have been given, but in different fashion.

I would not have spoken in this way, for this work requires a certain specific rapport, and definite characteristics on the part of the personality involved.  Material could have been given in a much more simple fashion through another, but I wanted it as undistorted and fully dimensional as possible.  Had Ruburt not been available, the material would have been given to a Speaker, living in your terms, who was also involved in the creative field.

There is no one else presently alive in your system with whom I had any great rapport in the past, except yourselves.  Such a Speaker would have received the information largely in the dream state, and written it in a series of treatises and fictionalized narrative.

Had Ruburt not accepted, however, it is most probable that he would have chosen another life in which to fulfill the task, in which case I would have waited.  The decision was always his, however, and had he not accepted at all, other arrangements would have been made.

(To me):  Now you early foresaw your part in these sessions, and our work.  One of the paintings you did many years ago clearly foreshadowed the development of your psychic endeavors.  This was the one you sold, of the man that hung for some time in the position in which my portrait now hangs.  That was a portrait of Joseph; in other words of your own inner identity as you intuitively perceived it at the time.  You were not consciously aware of the connection, but you were consciously aware of the painting’s strong impact.

It represented also the searching, creatively dissatisfied portion of you, looking for further understanding and knowledge.  The peculiar relationship existing between you and Ruburt was also a prerequisite, and so your permission and acceptance was also needed.

Had you remained apart, the sessions would not have begun.  You have been connected with the same entity, though you have sprung apart from it, but the inner relationship adds to the power available.  You help steady the circuit, so to speak.  You also generated the initial energy and impetus to help Ruburt’s own.

Such work does not only necessitate the choosing of one individual, but is also an endeavor in which many other elements are taken into consideration.  It was known, for example, that Ruburt would need your support, as it was also known that the work itself would help your own creative abilities.

All of this was decided by you both, and by me before you began this particular lifetime.  Even Ruburt’s intellectual questioning and often deep reluctance was known in advance, and adapted to aid in the work involved.

The information was not to be given to “born believers”, but to intelligent people, and to a “medium” who questioned it, not only for himself but for all those given to the same kind of questioning.  As Ruburt grows to understand, therefore, and as he continues to develop, he triumphs not only for himself but for all those who follow his ventures.  And yet we wanted a balance also, and so you stand as a man who intuitively recognized the value of inner information and the importance of the material, even though you were unacquainted with such ideas.

It goes without saying that on much deeper levels there is no reluctance on Ruburt’s part, or the abilities would not have developed in this fashion.  His criticism in the beginning served also as reassurance to the ego, in its first experiences, that it would not be shoved aside or damaged in any fashion.

The characteristics needed for “mediumship” are much like those needed by any strongly creative person.  A strong supportive ego is a necessity, particularly in initial stages.  In periods of severe personality disturbances that can occur simultaneously with great creativity, the ego becomes terrified of the strength of the creative ability, fearing that it can be crushed beneath.

In such cases the ego is too rigid, and does not expand with the nature of the personality’s whole creative experience.  Of course this could happen with mediumship, as with any other such activity.  In this case, however, Ruburt’s ego gradually began to let its rigidity go, in a gradual process that allowed the whole personality, itself included, to expand.

Session 583

Seth Speaks, Session 583

(“… I wonder why Western man isn’t more aware of these (projection) abilities … why doesn’t he cultivate them and put them to use?”)

Western man has chosen to focus his energy outward and largely ignore inner realities.  The social and cultural aspects, and even the religious ones, automatically inhibit such experiences from childhood on.  There is no social benefit at all connected with projections in your society, and many taboos against it.

This is, of course, chosen by those involved in that civilization.  There are also balances that exist before moderation and understanding are reached.  Some personalities choose to be reincarnated in exteriorly oriented societies, in compensation for lives that were lived with great concentration inward, and very poor physical manipulation.  Man learns, you see, that inner reality and outer reality both must be understood and used constructively.

Projections occur of course in the sleep state constantly, whether or not they are remembered.  They are recalled when there is some reason to do so, some merit or obvious achievement involved, as in societies where it is considered highly advantageous to use dreams and projections.

If you are presently experiencing a life in which you have chosen high emphasis upon physical locomotion, for example, then through vague dream memories of flying you can be inspired toward, say, the invention of airplanes or rockets; but if you actually understand the fact that your own consciousness can indeed travel outside of the body, then the impetus toward physical developments in locomotion is not nearly so intense.

(“In the 429th session … you said that some personalities can be a part of more than one entity.”)

I have mentioned this many times.  There are no boundaries to the self, and no barriers put upon its development.  A personality may “originally” be a part of a given entity, and on its own develop interests quite different.  It can on its own take a lonely way, or it can instead attach itself or gravitate toward other entities with interests like its own.  The original connection will not be severed, but new ones made and formed.

(“In Chapter Nineteen of The Seth Material you gave a list of the inner senses.  Are there more of these that you haven’t told us about?”)

There are indeed.  They have to do, however, with experiences that you will not normally encounter in your particular system, that lie latent.

Almost any cell has the capacity for growing into any given organ, or forming any part of the body.  It has the capacity for developing sense organs that, practically speaking, will not be developed if the cell becomes an elbow or a knee, but the capacity is there.  This applies not only to your own species but in many cases between species, and there are basic units in all living matter capable of forming animal or vegetable life, capable of developing the perceptive mechanisms inherent in any of these.

It is therefore theoretically possible for you to see the world through a frog’s eye, or a bird’s or an ant’s.  We are speaking here of physical senses.  The inner self has also latent inner senses beside the ones that it normally uses while the consciousness is tuned into a particular camouflage system.

Some, however, are inexpressible in physical terms, and only analogies could be used to hint of their nature.  In this book there is no need to discuss them.  They belong in a book given more specifically to interior methods of perception.

Session 582

Seth Speaks, Session 582

(“Is evolution, as it is commonly thought of, a fact or something greatly distorted?”)

(Apropos of this question, in ESP class eight days later Seth had this to say about Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution:

(“He spent his last years proving it, and yet it has no real validity.  It has validity within very limited perspectives only; for consciousness does, indeed, evolve form.  Form does not evolve consciousness.  All consciousness does, indeed, exist at once, and therefore it did not evolve in those terms.  It is according to when you come into the picture, and what you choose to observe, and what part of the play you decide to observe.  It is more the other way around, in that evolved consciousness forms itself into many different patterns and rains down on reality.  Consciousness did not come from atoms and molecules scattered by chance through the universe, or scattered by chance through many universes.  Consciousness did not arrive because inert matter suddenly soared into activity and song.  The consciousness existed first, and evolved the form into which it then began to manifest itself.

(“Now, if you had all been really paying attention to what I have been saying for some time about the simultaneous nature of time and existence, then you would have known that the theory of evolution is as beautiful a tale as the theory of biblical creation.  Both are quite handy, and both are methods of telling stories, and both might seem to agree within their own systems, and yet, in larger respects they cannot be realities … No – no form of matter, however potent, will be self-evolved into consciousness, no matter what other bits of matter are added to it.  Without consciousness, the matter would not be there in the universe, floating around, waiting for another component to give it reality, consciousness, existence, or song.”

(A class member: “Every bit of matter already has consciousness?”

(“Indeed, and consciousness came first.  You are quite correct.  I thank you for bringing up the matter.  There are many ways of bringing up matter.”)

At the risk of really repeating myself, let me state that time as you know it does not exist basically and that all creation is simultaneous.  That should answer your question.

We will elaborate.

All the ages of Earth, in your terms both past and present, exist, as do future ages.  NOW.  Some life forms are being developed in what you think of as present time.  They will not appear physically until you reach your future time.

They exist now, however, as certainly as do, say, the dinosaurs.  You only choose to focus your attention upon a highly specific field of space-time coordinates, accepting these as present reality, and closing yourselves off from all others.  Specifically, complicated physical forms are not the result of previous simpler ones.  They all exist in larger terms at once.

On the other hand, more complicated organizations of consciousness are necessary to form, enter, and vitalize the more complicated physical structures.  All structure is formed by consciousness.  Defined in your terms, a fragment is a consciousness not as developed as your own.  The living portions of nature are the result of your own creativity, projections and fragments of your own energy; energy that comes to you from All That Is and goes outward from you, forming its own image manifestations as you form yours.

Since you do not perceive the future and do not understand that life goes out in all directions, then it seems only logical to suppose that present forms must be based upon past ones.  You do close your eyes to evidence that does not support this theory.

There is no single-line development, in other words.  The fragment elements directed outward by you as a species also add of course to your physical reality, for without the fine balance maintained, and without this cooperation, your particular kind of environment would not be possible.

I have told you often that you do yourselves a grave injustice by limiting you conception of the self.  Your sense of identity, freedom, power, and love would be immeasurably enhanced if you could understand that what you are does not end at the boundaries of your skin, but continues outward through the physical environment that seem to be impersonal, or not-self.

Biologically it should be easy to understand that you are physically a part of earth and everything within it.  You are made of the same elements, you breathe the same air.  You cannot hold the air that you take within you and then say, “This is myself, filled with this air.  I will not let it go”, or you would find out very quickly that you were not nearly so independent.

You are biologically connected, chemically connected with the earth that you know; but since it is also formed naturally and spontaneously from your own projected psychic energy, since you and the seasons even have a psychic interaction, then the self must be understood in a far greater context.  Such a context would allow you to share in life experiences of many other forms, to follow patterns of energy and emotion of which you barely conceive, and to sense a world-consciousness in which you have your own independent part.

(“In the 429th session you said: ‘Also, minutes and hours have their own consciousness.’ You didn’t elaborate.”)

What you perceive of time is a portion of other events intruding into your own system, often interpreted as movement in space, or as something that separates events – if not in space, then in a way possible to define without using the concept of time.

What separates events is not time, but your perception.  You perceive events “one at a time”.  Time as it appears to you is, instead, a psychic organization of experience.  The seeming beginning and end of an event; the seeming birth and death, are simply other dimensions of experience as, for example, height, width, weight.  Instead it seem to you that you grow toward an end, when an end is a part of a particular experience, or if you prefer, person-event.

We are speaking then of multidimensional reality.  The whole self or entity or soul can never be completely materialized in three-dimensional form.  A part of it can be projected into that dimension however, extending so many years in time, taking up so much space, and so forth.

The entity sees the whole event, the whole person-event, with the time element, or age in your terms, as simply another characteristic or dimension.  The person-event is not cut off, however.  Its greater reality simply cannot appear within three dimensions.  It is instead composed of atoms and molecules that you do not perceive, both above and below the physical range of intensities – and all of these in their own way possess consciousness.

In greater terms, seconds and moments do not exist, either, but the reality that is behind time or that you perceive as time, the “outside time” events, are composed of units that also have their own kind of consciousness.  They form what appears as time to you, as atoms and molecules form what appears as space to you.

Now these are units moving faster than the speed of light, excellent energy sources intruding into and impinging upon matter without ever materializing.  They will be interpreted differently in other systems.

Session 581

Seth Speaks, Session 581

(“…Are these faster-than-light particles (tachyons) the same as, or like, the electromagnetic energy or EE units Seth discusses in the Appendix of The Seth Material?”)

I told you some time ago that there are man gradations of matte, of form, that you did not perceive.  In your terms many of these particles making up such constructions do move faster than the speed of your light.

Your light, again, represents only a portion of an even larger spectrum than that of which you know; and when your scientists study its properties, they can only investigate light as it intrudes into the three-dimensional system.  The same of course applies to a study of the structure of matter or form.

There are indeed universes composed of such faster-than-light particles.  Some of these in your terms share the same space as your own universe.  You simply would not perceive such particles as mass.  When these particles are slowed down sufficiently, you do experience them as matter.

Some of these particles drastically alter their velocity, appearing sometimes at you slower rate, usually in cyclic fashion.  The inner vortex of some such particles has a much greater velocity than the orbiting portions.  EE units are formed spontaneously from the electromagnetic reality of feelings emitted from each consciousness, as, for example, breath automatically goes out from the physical body.

EE units are, then, emanations from consciousness.  The intensity of the thought or emotion determines the characteristics of the units themselves.  As certain ranges are reached, they are propelled into physical actualization.  Whether or not this occurs in your terms, they will exit as small matter particles – as, say, latent matter or pseudomatter.

Some of these will fall into the faster-than-light groupings, and have a perceivable vitality within that framework.  These faster-than-light particles of course exist in their own kind of form then.  There are many ranges and great varieties of such units, all existing beyond your perceivable reach.  To lump them together in such a way, however, is misleading, for within all of this there is great order.

You are not utterly unaware of the existence of some of these units, though you do not experience them as mass.  You interpret some of them as events, dream events, so-called hallucinations; and sometimes certain ranges of these units are interpreted by you as movement-through-time.

All of them cast certain “atmospheric conditions” or reflections that color physical events as you know them.  Some of your own feelings are propelled into a reality within such systems, adopting within that framework their own mass and form.  In the creation and maintenance of your normal reality, you focus your daily waking consciousness so that it becomes effective within the ranges necessary.  Ideas and feeling that you want made physical carry within them the mechanisms that will put them in the proper range, well within the electromagnetic field necessary for physical development.

Your consciousness, however, is equipped to create realities in other fields as well.  Now in certain dreams and out-of-body experiences, your own consciousness moves faster than the speed of light, and under such conditions you are able to perceive some of these other forms of “mass or matter”.

The EE units are quite simply incipient forms of reality: seeds automatically given birth, suited for different environments, some appearing within the physical framework, and some not conforming at all to its prerequisites.  Now some systems of reality are “bounded” with centers of faster-than-light particles.  These begin to slow down at a rhythmic rate toward the peripheries, in your terms over great distances, until actually the outside slower particles to some extent imprison the center of masses even though they move much more quickly, but within a confined area.

The behaviors of such units, as you can now see, form the particular camouflage within any given system, while the peripheral activities effectively set up inner identities and outer boundaries.  These are all variations, generally speaking and very simply put, on matter as you think of it.  The same applies to negative or antimatter however, which you do not perceive in any case.  But the gradations of activity within such systems are as diverse.

Basically, however, no system is closed.  Energy flows freely from one to another, or rather permeates each.  It is only the camouflage structure that gives the impression of closed systems, and the law of inertia does not apply.  It appears to be a reality only within your own framework and because of your limited focus.

Now the duration and relative stability of such “matter” within other systems varies considerably, with intensity determining the strength of all such manifestations.  The invisible EE units form your physical matter and represent the essential and basic units from which any physical particle appears.

It will not be physically perceived.  You see only its results.  Since consciousness can travel faster than the speed of light, then when it is not imprisoned by the slower particles of the body it can become aware of some of these other realities.  Without training, however, it will not know how to interpret what it sees.  The physical brain is the mechanism by which thoughts or emotion is automatically formed into EE units of the proper range and intensity to be used by the physical organism.

These EE units, then, are the psychic building blocks of matter.

(“Are you in contact with, or speaking through any other humans as you are with Jane?”)

No.  As mentioned earlier in this book, I do contact some in other levels of reality, however.

("Is experiencing inner vibrational touch akin to reading an aura?")

No.  Inner vibrational touch is a much more personal experience, more like “becoming a part of” that which your perceive, rather than for example reading of an aura.

(“Does Jane ever prevent your coming through when you want to?”)

On several occasions I have communicated my willingness in particular circumstances.  I knew more about those circumstances than Ruburt.  Some of these occasions occurred fairly early in our sessions, when Ruburt was worried about spontaneous trances, so after making my presence known to him I acquiesced to his decision at the time.  On a few occasions certain conditions have been poor.  Usually Ruburt reacted to these adversely at his end – that is, the interference was such that it would bother his situation rather than mine.

(Many sessions ago, Seth told us he had a dog fragment personality still here on Earth.  He wouldn’t tell us where it was, though.  “Do you have any physical fragments of any kind still here on earth?”)

I do not now.  My dog is gone.

(“Are animals fragments of human beings?”)

It is a good question, and you had better give me a moment to explain it clearly.

In one manner of speaking, you are fragments of your entities.  Yet you consider yourselves quite independent, and not thrust-off second-handed selves; so dogs and other animals are not simply the manifestation of stray psychic energy on the part of human beings.

Animals have varying degrees of self-consciousness, as indeed people do.  The consciousness that is within them is as valid and eternal as your own, however.  There is nothing to prevent a personality from investing a portion of his own energy into an animal form.  This is not transmigration of souls.  It does not mean that a man can be reincarnated in an animal.  It does mean that personalities can send a portion of their energy into various kinds of form.

Perhaps reincarnations are over for a given individual, for example, yet within him is still some sense of yearning for the natural earth with which he has so often been involved.  So he may project a fragment of his consciousness in such a way into an animal form.  A man is not an animal, then, nor does he invade, say, the body of one.

He simply adds some of his energy to that present in the animal, mixing his vitality with the animal’s own.  This does not mean that all animals are fragments in this manner, however.  Animals, as any pet owner knows, have their own personalities and characteristics, and individual ways of perceiving the reality available to them.  Some gobble experience.  Their consciousness can be immeasurably quickened by contact with friendly humans, and emotional involvement with life is strongly developed.

The mechanics of consciousness remain the same.  They do not change for animals or men.  Therefore there are no limitations set upon the development of any individual consciousness, or growth of any identity.  Consciousness both in the body and without finds its own range, its own level.  A dog, then, is not limited to being a dog in other existences.

A certain level, again, of consciousness is necessary, a certain kind of knowledge, a certain understanding of energy organization before an identity can manipulate a complicated physical organism.

As you know, consciousness has a great tendency to maintain individuality, and yet to join in gestalts at the same time.  An animal consciousness after death may form such a gestalt with other such consciousnesses, in which abilities are pooled and the combined cooperation makes possible, for example, a change of species.

In these and other cases, however, the innate individuality is not lost but remains indelibly imprinted.  Consciousness must by its nature change, and so identities must also change – not one blotting out the other, but building upon it while each succeeding step is maintained and not discarded, you see.

In such interrelationships, the steps or identities are each immeasurably enriched by the added perception of the others.  As mentioned earlier, thoughts, containing their own electromagnetic reality, have form whether or not you perceive it.  With each thought, then, you send out from yourself shapes and images that can be quite legitimate realities to those within the system of reality into which they are propelled.

In the same way, personalities from other systems can send energy to yours.  Since such events do not originate within your system, you do not understand their import.
