Inner Attitudes And War
One small note. The episode last evening was aggressively
disrupting to some extent. Mainly
because of the inner attitudes of those involved. Symbolically, you see, and beneath it all,
both men showed characteristics that under different circumstances could have
led them into violence for the sake of their beliefs.
A belief must not possess. They were psychically adding to the
unfortunate circumstances over which they argued, and both equally were at
fault for this reason. A battle recreated
in the mind reinforces the original psychic explosion and contemplation of war
helps project that disaster into the future.
To argue aggressively that war is wrong is ironic stupidity, for such an
individual already displays those characteristics that lead to war.
It is wrong to think that restraint under
such circumstances or discussions is cowardly, though of course, it may
be. To refrain from argument while
simultaneously and deliberately forcing thoughts or pictures of peace,
represents a positive action. The
intensity of the peaceful images or thoughts unfortunately rarely match the
intensity of the bitterness, you see.
Thoughts of reconciliation or peace actually and practically do their
bit to destroy the causes of war.
Now, H at the paper is not doing all of
this on his own entirely. Through poor
habits he attracts negative influences from others, and actually amplifies
them, projecting them outward in a highly magnified manner. This takes much of his energy.
There is a connection here between last
night’s episode, and the emotionally charged psychological climate behind the
overt behavior itself: the behavior for example was not violent in any way.
There are deeply hidden areas of human
behavior far below the surface of actions, and these cause the actions. They are psychic exchanges. Before the beginning of any war, subconsciously
each individual knows not only that a war will occur, but its precise
outcome. Battles like other physical
acts exist first in the mental realm.
All of your physical activities, from the political to the economic and
to the most insignificant individual concerns have their origin in mental
existence, and their outcome is known.
To create a harmonious inner existence is a
positive act with far-reaching effects, and not an act of isolation. To desire peace strongly is to help achieve
it. To accept war helps prolong its
physical existence. These are not idle
words nor are they meant symbolically.
Wars are not only disruptive within your
system, but cause some severe repercussions for individuals who die while in
battle. The seemingly small episode of
last evening presented in miniature the basic attitudes that are behind
aggressive acts.
There is a short-circuiting process in
which even good intentions are distorted and turned to other purposes. That which is feared is feared so strongly
and concentrated upon so intensely that it is attracted rather than
repelled. The approach should not be fear
of war but love of peace; not fear of poor health but concentration upon the enjoyment
of good health; not fear of poverty, but concentration upon the unlimited supplies
available on your earth.
Desire attracts but fear also attracts. Severe fear is highly dangerous in this respect
and in this context.
Our friend is finally learning to take his concentration
away from his symptoms, and he is losing them. Attention prolongs them. Intense concentration even upon an object is useful
whenever he is bothered. Concentration, an
imagined journey, any exercise that is intense and diverting is beneficial.
